Organizer: Marion O (Event Director)

An informal forest training event in Bow Valley Provincial Park. PLEASE SIGN UP SO I KNOW HOW MANY MAPS TO PRINT!! Also, please bring a map bag if you have one/some!

I have designed 4 loops all from a central start/finish. The controls are all contour features, so lots of practice that we haven't had over the winter!! The idea is that you can do as many or as few loops as you want. The loops vary in length from 2.68k to 3.65k - so just over 12k if you do all of them :) Novice orienteers are also welcome - and some coaching can be available form some of the more experienced orienteers. I have added a 5th easier loop.

The start is close to the parking at Middle Lake in Bow Valley Provincial Park - follow the pin flags from the parking lot. The weather is still supposed to be mild - but maybe windy. There may still be patches of snow so have a change of foot wear!

I have NOT done a site visit - so there may be issues... Teresa and I are going out early to hang the ribbons (clothes pegs with orange and white flagging tape hanging from them). (we may not have all of them done by the time you get there, so help may be needed!) There will be a sign out/sign in sheet at the start - so pick a loop, sign out, run then sign in and choose another loop. I'll ask the last runners on each loop to pick up the clothes pegs. I'll need all the pegs back in by noon so we can get to Canmore!! There is cell coverage on the map. I will print my number on the map, so you can carry a phone if you think you may need to contact me.

If you have questions, send me an email.

Following the training there will be a course planning seminar in Canmore at the Nordic Centre day lodge. Lunches there are pretty good, or bring your own! (And there are showers available in the Nordic Centre day lodge - and also perhaps in the Bow Valley campground, across the road at the RV side).
