Participants, from Beginner to Long Advanced, came away very happy with their runs. It was so nice to be out on this challenging map. Thanks to the other volunteers, assistant organizer, Anita, permitting and admin, Marsha, start, Mark A, and control pick up: Finley, Teresa, Marion, Lucas, Mark A, and Miles



Course Notes:

  • Courses:
    • Long advanced, 5.2km, 16 controls.
    • Short advanced 3.7 km, 14 controls
    • Intermediate 3.3 km, 10 controls
    • Beginner 1.9 km, 7 controls
  • The Beginner course has the easiest navigation (TD1/TD2), with all controls placed along distinct line features, like tracks and powerlines.
  • The Intermediate course has more challenging navigation (TD3), with controls set on prominent features (eg a small hill, a copse of trees) near to distinct line features such as tracks, powerlines and long distinct vegetation boundaries (eg a grassland/forest boundary).
  • The two advanced courses will require very technical navigation (TD5), with controls set amongst a myriad of small hills and depressions in open forest with almost no trails, making full use of the fine kame and kettle terrain in Bow Valley Provincial Park.

  • Check in: 10 - 11 am
  • Start time: 10:30 - 11:30 am
  • Maximum time on course: 2.5 hours
  • Course closes: 2 pm. You MUST return by 2 pm whether you have finished your course or not.
  • FEES:
    • FWOC or member of another Canadian orienteering club (OC member) - $15 / adult; $10/ junior (6-20)
    • Day member (non-member) - $20 / adult; $15 /junior (6-20)
  • Start / Check-In / Parking: Bow Valley Park Administration Office
  • Bear spray is mandated by Alberta Parks
