Apologies about the results confusion. We were testing a new feature of the Meos timing software that was supposed to automatically put you into the correct knockout race after the previous qualifying round, but it placed many people in the wrong races and we had to sort it all out by hand (much harder than if we just timed the races using the simpler methods). Fortunately, in mass start events, it is easy to tell which place you came in :)
After much manual corrections, the results below show the split times and rankings for each of the 3 courses all together (not split into the actual heats that you ran). Note that in knock-out sprints, some runners may have run slower and still advanced so a relatively slower speed in the qualifying races may have been intentional. Update: with apologies, where it says Kevin M in the splits below, it should say Don M.
Race 1 (quarter-final course)
Race 2 (semi-final course)
Race 3 (final/consolation final course)
Going to the COC/NAOC and have never run a knock-out sprint before? Enjoy fast head-to-head racing? Want to come to a fun, social event and hang out with some orienteers? If you answered YES to any of these questions, this is the event for you!
Knock-out sprint is a fun, multi-round, head-to-head, BRAND NEW style of orienteering which was first introduced to the world stage in 2021. It involves a mass start of 6 people all running the same sprint course, and the first few across the line from each race progressing to the next round.
There will be a quarter-final, semi-final, and final, with a men's bracket and women's bracket. Those runners who get knocked out during the rounds will still be able to run each course.
The event in UofC is sure to be something special - not only a brand new style of orienteering for us all to enjoy, but also a new use of the map (that one will stay a mystery for a little longer). As there are multiple rounds to the races, there will be lots of time to socialise and spectating different heats - so bring a chair, snacks, refreshments, and the sun! It sure will be an event not to miss!
The event is capped at 36 men and 36 women to compete in the knock-out competition, and everyone will be guaranteed 3 runs. The knock out sprint races are suitable for anyone who has been completing the intermediate and advanced courses at WEO events. There will also be two short beginner courses on offer with no entry limit.
**PLEASE ENTER AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE IF YOU WANT TO RUN - IT MAKES ORGANISING A LOT EASER!!** (and means you won't miss out)
Registration CLOSES July 13, 2024!
NOTE: we have a permit to hold this event at University of Calgary, but they would like us to remind you that this event is not affiliated with nor endorsed by the University of Calgary.
