Map: Pearce Estate

Dust off your orienteering gear and join us at Pearce Estate for some fun courses around the park. The Beginner course will involve navigating the trails with frequent control points along the way to help keep you on-track. Intermediate and Advanced courses will comprise a series of loops with many changes of direction and lots of route choice, bringing you back near to the start/finish area each time. The Intermediate course will be 3 loops and the Advanced course will be 4 loops. You can always shorten the course by completing fewer loops.

For added challenge and excitement you can elect to take part in mini-mass starts of 4-10 runners and practice your mental focus in some head-to-head racing. Beware - courses will be forked, so follow at your peril!

Provisional Course Details - these may change slightly

  • Beginner 1.5km, 14 controls
  • Intermediate 3 loops, 3.5km, 28 controls
  • Advanced 4 loops, 4.8km, 38 controls

Wednesday Evening Orienteering (WEO)

  • in-person orienteering events
  • with control flags and SI timing units in the terrain
  • from 6:30-8pm on the day of the event

There will be about 20 WEO events from April to September

  • You have to pre-register for each event. The last day to register for each Wednesday event is the Monday evening before to guarantee a map is printed for you.
  • You will need an SI stick; when registering you can choose to borrow one if you do not own one.
  • You may wish to download the Maprun app and use it the day of the event. You can also use the app to run anytime up to a year afterwards if you miss the event.

Course Selection

When registering, there are three courses to choose from:

  • Beginner: the easiest and shortest course, suitable for beginner orienteers and families; simple navigation; approx 1.5-2kms. Stays on trails
  • Intermediate: requires orienteering/navigation skills; approx 2-3.5kms
  • Advanced: the longest and potentially most challenging course (for some city maps this course may be called Long Intermediate); approx 4 kms (or more)

Pricing

  • $5 for Members
  • $10 for Non-members
  • $15 for a Member Family (up to 6 registrants)
  • $30 for a Non-member Family (up to 6 registrants)

WEO Series Pass

If you are interested in joining us for the season, you may purchase the WEO Series Pass for $55. This will give you access to all events in the WEO season, but you must still pre-register for each event so that a map is printed for you. Note, you must have a FWOC membership in order to purchase the WEO Series Pass.

Volunteering

All our events depend on volunteers - please consider helping-out - no experience necessary.
