Map: Paskapoo Slopes

Event Description

Welcome to Paskapoo Slopes FWOC WEO.

This event offers three regular orienteering maps:

  • Beginner/Novice (Technical Difficulty TD2, 2.3 km long, elevation gain 120m, 10 controls on or near trails),
  • Intermediate (TD3, 3.3 km, 185 m elevation gain, on and off trails, route choices, 14 controls),
  • Advanced (TD4, 4.0 km, 275 m elevation gain, 19 controls, physically challenging).

In addition, to those seeking cognitive challenge, the Intermediate course will be available as Memory-O, where map snippets will be attached to the controls, and athletes would run the course without a map*, relying on their memory and periodic rereferring to the map snippets.

* A sealed Intermediate map will be given to the Memory-O participants for emergency, along with a control description. One can revert to the normal Intermediate course when they unseal the "emergency" map.

Trail shoes are recommended for all courses.

You will get to see most of the Paskapoo Slopes sightseeing features - the Big Erratic, Buddhist Stupa, abandoned painted cars, ruins, many fresh springs, lush vegetation, and well trodden trails.

All maps are 1:7,500 scale.

THIS IS A HIGH USE MTB AREA: Paskapoo Slopes are a popular area for mountain biking - please watch out for cyclists while on course and be courteous; they have bigger mass and higher speed - and therefore much bigger momentum. Also watch out for other park users: humans, dogs, and wildlife.
