Event Description

Welcome to FWOC WEO #12 - Paskapoo Slopes. We hope this time we won't be bothered by forest fire smoke, thunderstorms, or hurricane strong winds.

This event offers three regular orienteering maps:

  • Beginner/Novice (Technical Difficulty TD2, 2.3 km long (route choice 3 km), elevation gain ~120m, 10 controls on or near trails),
  • Intermediate (TD3, 3.6 km, 185 m elevation gain, on and off trails, route choices, 14 controls),
  • Long (TD4, 4.2 km, 275 m elevation gain, 19 controls, physically challenging).

In the past years, some of those who chose the Long course got their money worth, so - if you prefer the Long then try to start early (6:30-ish); if you start at 7-ish - do the Intermediate instead.

Be back by 8 p.m. and report to the FINISH !

Trail shoes with good grip are recommended for all courses.

We have tried to include most of the Paskapoo Slopes attractions - the Big Erratic, Buddhist Stupa, abandoned painted cars, ruins, many fresh springs, lush vegetation, and well trodden trails.

All maps are 1:7,500 scale. Contours 5 m.

THIS IS A HIGH USE MTB AREA: Paskapoo Slopes are a popular area for mountain biking - please watch out for cyclists while on course and be courteous; they have bigger mass and higher speed - and therefore much bigger momentum. Also watch out for other park users: humans, dogs, and wildlife.

PARKING OPTIONS:

  • The Paskapoo parking lot we will be based at, called 'Olympic park parking' on google
  • Street parking on the west side of Piita Rise SW (adjacent)

Each WEO event takes about 10 volunteers. We really need our membership to support these evenings in order to keep these WEOs happening. It is a great way to meet more members, and some roles help improve your orienteering skills! If you would like to help out in any way - no experience necessary - please reach out to [email protected] or click on the Volunteer Link below.
