Map: Edgemont

Thank you to Oleg for a charming TNT!

For this Valentine's Day, we decided to make orienteers' life easier, and offer an easy, runnable course in Edgemont. The course should not challenge your O-skills much - there are only a few route choices, and so it is meant as a "cardio" exercise.

Course notes:

  • Controls are fire hydrants, except for start/finish, which is at a goalpost on the soccer field adjacent to the Mother Mary Greene School (115 Edenwold Dr NW)
  • You can park at the little plaza a block North from start/finish (45 Edenwold Dr NW), or use residential streets
  • Map scale 1:10000
  • I have printed out and put a few maps in a plastic sleeve hidden between the fence and a green "high voltage" utility box 50 meters North of the start/finish feature. I can't guarantee this stash will remain intact though - after all it's a school yard and one can't hide things from kids.
  • Last time I ran the course, a couple of days ago - it was quite icy, especially in shaded alleys and pathways. Sidewalks were in a better shape, buy expect everything to be icy after temperature drops on Monday night. Wear adequate and safe footwear.
  • Residential streets are pretty quiet, but there are two Edgemont Blvd crossings - please do not run red lights, and consider wearing reflective vest and/or headlamp if you plan running in the dark..
  • I live in another community and won't be able to hold a social at my place, and I could not find a nearby place to gather either. So - no apres-run socials this time; your run the course, and go have a Valentine's Day dinner! :o)

Be safe on the treacherous ice!

FWOC is offering TNTs (winter orienteering training) again this year. You must be a member of FWOC (or another Canadian orienteering club - OC Member) to participate.

NEW :

  1. Days of the week. 2022-2023 TNTs will usually run on both Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm. Pin flags will be set out for the duration of the event. Thus, participants who would prefer to run during the day can run Wednesday morning or afternoon:) NOTE: The organizer has the option of making their event a weekend event.
  2. Social Option. The organizer has the option of hosting a social gathering during the event, usually either Tuesday evening or Wednesday evening. Details for this will be on the webpage and in the email to participants.
  3. Family Pricing Option: To encourage families to participate (especially in this time of increasing costs), FWOC has decided to provide a family pricing option (for two or more members of a family who live in the same household) for the series of TNTs. This pricing option is still being configured in Interpodia. Stay tuned.

Same as last year:

  1. You need to register (and pay) in advance on-line. Registration link will be available soon.
  2. The minimum number of events is 10 and we hope to offer up to 15. You can participate in as many as you like. Even if you only get to 5 events, it's a pretty good deal!
  3. All events will be put on Maprun6 so you can go any day after the start of the event (up to a year).
  4. The location, PDF of the map, and maprun6 details will be sent via email to all registered participants.
  5. If you need a map printed for you, please let us know.
