Paskapoo Slopes - RESULTS! Wednesday Evening series
July 9th 2025 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizer: Oleg Tabelev (Event Director)
Map: Paskapoo Slopes
Huge thanks to everyone who came out for today’s Paskapoo Slopes event—runners, walkers, and especially our volunteers! We dodged any natural catastrophes (hooray!) and enjoyed mostly pleasant weather. That said, the steep terrain and wild vegetation gave many of us a run for our money.
Next week’s FWOC gathering promises to be a literal walk in the park—Sandy Beach / River Park—so consider this week's adventure a solid warm-up!
Special shout-out to our amazing volunteer crew:
- Elena T, Marsha F, Teresa W — for registration, downloads, coaching, setup and takedown
- Maria I, Roman Y, Jan R, Teresa W — for control pick-up
- Tim M, Sarah M, Rob B, Suzanne B — for event takedown
- Others who I may have missed, sorry...
Extra-special thanks to Maria I for rescuing a lost dog! The coyotes will go hungry tonight.
Event Description
Welcome to Paskapoo Slopes FWOC WEO - take two this season. The first attempt in May was spoiled by a sudden thunderstorm so let's hope this instance will be lightning-, hail-, and forest fire smoke free.
This event offers three regular orienteering maps:
- Beginner/Novice (Technical Difficulty TD2, 2.3 km long (route choice 3 km), elevation gain 120m, 10 controls on or near trails),
- Intermediate (TD3, 4 km (more like 5 km), 185 m elevation gain, on and off trails, route choices, 16 controls),
- Long (TD4, 4.5 km (closer to 6 km), 275 m elevation gain, 21 controls, physically challenging).
Trail shoes with good grip are recommended for all courses.
You will get to see most of the Paskapoo Slopes features - the Big Erratic, Buddhist Stupa, abandoned painted cars, ruins, many fresh springs, lush vegetation, and well trodden trails.
All maps are 1:7,500 scale. Contours 5 m.
THIS IS A HIGH USE MTB AREA: Paskapoo Slopes are a popular area for mountain biking - please watch out for cyclists while on course and be courteous; they have bigger mass and higher speed - and therefore much bigger momentum. Also watch out for other park users: humans, dogs, and wildlife.
PARKING OPTIONS:
- The Paskapoo parking lot we will be based at, called 'Olympic park parking' on google
- Street parking on the west side of Piita Rise SW (adjacent)
- Underground parking lot at Trinity Hills Shopping Mall (300m away)
