Thank you to everyone who came out! And a huge thank you to everyone who helped out, including Teresa on the computer, Kylie with event setup, Tim and Christin with control pickup, and anybody else. It was tons of fun. Results are posted.
Event Information
This Wednesday Event is going to be something special, so you don't want to miss it! We're putting on a fast and fun 2-person relay on the MRU map!
For those of you who have never run a 2-person relay before, the format is simple. It's a relay race with 2 people on each team, and each team member runs twice, in the order: Person A/Person B/Person A/Person B.
It is extremely important that you register in advance before 12:00 (Noon) on Tuesday, 22 July. We will create relay teams after this time, and will not be able to guarantee we can fit you onto a team last minute. Pass-holders should email Marsha to indicate they intend to come.
Please read all of the information below, in particular the instructions about the relay (under 'Special Relay Instructions').
Courses
- 2-person relay
- Legs are roughly 1600m straight line distance, with 11 controls.
- There will be no loose control descriptions provided. Maps will be pre-bagged.
- Intermediate
- 1.7km straight line, with 16 controls.
- There will be no loose control descriptions provided. Please bring your own map bag if you wish to use one.
Schedule
- 18:30: Arrival at the Arena (the MRU Amphitheatre, https://maps.app.goo.gl/z4K1H7ff2wRyk6219)
- 18:35: Teams are announced and we will start to get everyone organised. Please arrive by 18:30 so we can get the relay started on time.
- 18:45: Mass Start of the 2-person relay.
- 19:45: Any remaining runners are to be started.
- 20:15: Course closure. Everyone must be back by 20:15 even if you have not finished your course, or we will consider you missing.
Special Relay Instructions
Relay procedure:
- Each team will have one, two sided map on which all legs are printed. It is pre-bagged in a map bag. The first leg runner will receive the map when they are on the Mass Start line. Your map is essentially your baton. Legs are marked by '1', '2', '3', '4'. Make sure you are running on the correct leg.
- First leg runners will assemble at the Mass Start line when indicated, and will start when prompted by the organisers. Second leg runners will remain in the 'Holding zone' until they have seen their first leg runner pass through the spectator control. Once they have seen their runner run through the spectator control, they may move to the Exchange zone. Their runner will punch the Go-control about 5 minutes later and tag their teammate across the Exchange zone flagging tape by handing over the map. Then, the incoming runner punches the finish and downloads. After they have downloaded and a volunteer has confirmed the download was successful, they will be prompted to clear their SI stick. Then, they move to the Holding zone to wait for their runner to come through the spectator control.
- The outgoing runner then runs to the start flag and does their course. The instructions above apply to each relay exchange, of which there are three.
- It is extremely important that the incoming runner punch the finish, download, and clear their SI stick (in that order) after they hand the map to their teammate.
See the diagram below:

Parking
- Free 2h parking is available along Lincoln Way (https://maps.app.goo.gl/SDZg1u3sBmRgDEJWA), a 5 minute walk from the Arena.
- If you do not mind paying for parking, then the two nearest MRU parking lots are the East Parkade and Daily Parking Lot A.
- Alternatively, there is plenty of street parking nearby if you are willing to walk/run a little farther.
Notes
- Check your codes! There will be many controls out in the terrain. Make sure the one you are punching is yours!
- Please be mindful of other runners, as well as other people in the area, such as students. We are not the only people present.
