THANK YOU
To all participants and most especially to ALL the VOLUNTEERS who helped make this event happen:
Ewan (organiser), Brad (check-in), Logan and Renn (check-in), Oleg (check-in and control pick-up), Robin (check-in and take-down), Marsha (check-in), Marion (control pick-up), Don B (control pick-up), Brent (control pick-up), Laurens (control pick-up), Tim (site take-down and results), Mariia and all the others who helped with site take-down.
Also thank you to the SOGO coaches for helping with control set-up and take-down.
Every bit of help makes a big difference.
We hope you enjoyed the courses. Sorry to anyone affected by the two mis-programmed control boxes. We will make sure they are 'dealt with' for next week.
Parking is in the City of Calgary lot west of the Winter Club parking. Drive through the winter club parking. Alternative parking across 14th Street on North Haven Drive.
There is 350m walk to the start with 50m climb.
Courses
- Novice: 2.1 km with 50m climb
- Intermediate: 2.8 km with 50m climb
- Short Advanced: 4.2 km with 55m climb
- Long Advanced: 5.5 km with 65m climb
Bring: plenty of water to drink and maybe bug spray.
Controls will be picked up at 8pm sharp.
Plenty of volunteers for control pick-up would be great so we can get it done before dark.
IF YOU WANT TO GUARANTEE A MAP, you MUST register by Tuesday at noon. The organizer gets the map numbers to print at that point. You can register after that BUT we can NOT ensure you will have a map. Some extras are printed.
Wednesday Evening Orienteering (WEO)
- in-person orienteering events
- with control flags and SI timing units in the terrain
- from 6:00-8pm on the day of the event
There will be about 20 WEO events from April to September
- You have to pre-register for each event. The last day to register for each Wednesday event is the Monday evening before to guarantee a map is printed for you.
- You will need an SI stick; when registering you can choose to borrow one if you do not own one.
- If you are unable to attend on the day of the event, you may wish to download the MapRun app and use it to run anytime up to a year afterwards.
Course Selection
When registering, there are three courses to choose from:
- Beginner: the easiest and shortest course, suitable for beginner orienteers and families; simple navigation; approx 1.5-2kms. Stays on trails
- Intermediate: requires orienteering/navigation skills; approx 2-3.5kms
- Advanced: the longest and potentially most challenging course (for some city maps this course may be called Long Intermediate); approx 4 kms (or more)
