TNT #7 - Tree Hugger's Dream @ Edgemont Toques & Training series

I am very pleased to see so many people chose to do Edgemont TNT this year, - and these are only the MapRun application results, available to me; I guess there may have been a few who ran it old school, without technology. Thank you, all - I am now inspired to continue putting together this kind of events, seeing that people are actually running them!

2026 FWOC Edgemont TNT MapRun resuls

This January, the Edgemont TNT will be a Score-O - on a well spread map between Edgemont Blvd and Country Hills Blvd. All controls are either bushes, green hedges, or trees - hence the name, The Tree Hagger's Dream. There may be a lot of running to collect all 600 points (the maximum) in the allotted 90 minutes - perhaps about 12 km if you find an optimal route, so feel free to only pick what you can in the time you have. Thirty (30) points will be deducted for every minute of overtime.

As a result of this recent warm weather, most sidewalks and pathways are clear, but expect some ice in back alleys and shady places; wear shoes with good traction; studded shoes are best for these conditions.

• "Controls" will be flagged with red surveyor flags.
• This TNT is a 90 minute Score-O in the north part of Edgemont, between Edgemont Blvd and Country Hills Blvd.
• Point value is implied in the control number; e.g. control 35 is worth 30 points, control 41 is 40 points.
• Thirty (30) points will be deducted for every minute over the allotted hour and a half.
• Be careful crossing the roads; use marked intersections on major roadways. Wear bright colors in the day, headlamp and reflective vest in the dark.
• Running in the dark will require headlamps or such.
• Suggested parking is at the Edgemont Community Association, 33 Edgevalley Cir NW, Calgary, AB T3A 4X1.
• Social - there will be no organized post-run social, sorry.

FWOC is offering TNTs (Toques ‘n Training sessions) again this year. You must be a current 2026 member of FWOC (or another Canadian orienteering club - COC Member) to participate. You only have to pay once through the registration website (2M / Interpodia), and you will be sent participant information including exact location each week.

Details:

1. Days of the week. 2025-2026 TNTs will usually run on both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 pm to 8 pm. Pin flags will be set out for the duration of the event (from Tuesday at 6pm to Wednesday at 8pm). Thus, participants who would prefer to run during the day can run Wednesday morning or afternoon. NOTE: The organizer has the option of making their event a weekend event.
2. Social Option. The organizer may host a social gathering after the event, either Tuesday or Wednesday evening. Details for this will in the email to participants. The Social could be at the organizer's house or at a nearby cafe or pub.
3. Barebones format: minimal effort for maximum enjoyment. Simplified registration form and pin flags (or other unique control features) in the terrain.
4. Family Pricing Option: To encourage families to participate, FWOC is planning to provide a family pricing option (save 30% for two or more members of a family who live in the same household) for the series of TNTs.
5. Cost: $25 / person for the series (or family pricing option for family members in the same household).
6. You need to register and pay in advance online.
7. The minimum number of events is 12, and we hope to offer up to 15. You can participate in as many as you like. Even if you only get to a few events, it's a pretty good deal.
8. All events will be put on MapRun so you can go any day after the start of the event (up to a year).
9. The location, PDF of the map, and mapRun details will be sent via email to all registered participants. Please do NOT share this information with people who are not registered.
10. If you need a map printed for you, please indicate that on the registration form.
11. Bring a headlamp if you plan to run any time after 5pm.
12. You will need to purchase your 2026 club membership at the end of December to continue to participate.
