WEO #1 - RESULTS Bowness Park Wednesday Evening series

Meeting point - Near Picnic site 3. Turn left when you enter the park and Picnic Site 3 will be to your right, between the parking lot and the river.
Courses:
Beginner: 2.2km, easy navigation
Intermediate/Advanced: There will be three 2km loops. Choose whether to complete 1, 2 or 3 loops, in any order. Intermediate navigation. Lots of short fast legs and changes of direction to keep you on your toes.
Help Needed: Please sign up to volunteer (click on the orange button below). Either help with registration before your run, downloading after your run or help pick up controls - there will be lots to pick up in a small area - the more volunteers the merrier!
Wednesday Evening Orienteering (WEO) Events
- In-person orienteering events with printed maps.
- Control flags and SI timing units will be used in the terrain
- An SI finger stick is required. When registering you can choose to borrow one if you do not own one.
- 6:30 - 8pm on the day of the event
- Pre - registration required for each event to secure a printed map. Please register before Monday evening before the Wednesday night.
- If you are unable to attend on the day of the event, you may wish to download the MapRun app and use it to run anytime up to a year afterwards.
Course Selection
When registering, there are several courses to choose from:
- Beginner: the easiest and shortest course, suitable for beginner orienteers and families; simple navigation; approx 1.5-2kms, staying on trails.
- Intermediate: requires orienteering/navigation skills; approx 2-3.5kms
- Advanced: the longest and potentially most challenging course, approx 4 kms (or more). On some maps, organizers may suggest cutting off some controls to allow participants to run a Short Advanced option. There will be separate results if there is a short advanced option.

WEO Series Pass:
If you are interested in joining us for the season, purchasing the WEO Series Pass for $55, which is the best option. You will have access to all events in the WEO season. Please Note: you must have a FWOC membership in order to purchase the WEO Series Pass.
Event Pricing for non WEO Series Pass Holders:
- For FWOC members and members of other Canadian orienteering clubs
- $5 per individual
- $15 per Family (up to 6 registrants who live in the same house)
- For non-members
- $10 per individual
- $30 per Family (up to 6 registrants who live in the same house)

Volunteering:
Each WEO event takes about 10 volunteers. We really need our membership to support these evenings in order to keep these WEOs happening. It is a great way to meet more members, and some roles help improve your orienteering skills! What to expect?
- You will receive some brief instructions.
- You can try a couple of learning activities
- You will get a map and head out for a self-led walk or run to try the beginner orienteering course.
- All of this should take around 1 hour.
