RESULTS! WEO # 3 Riley Park Wednesday Evening series
May 6th 2026 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizer: Tim McLaren (Event Director)
Map: SAIT / Riley Park
Thanks everyone for coming out and especially those who stuck around for the Mass Start! It was so fun to watch.
Thanks to all the many volunteers who pitched in including Lynn, Teresa, Bogi, Erin, Jeff, Damian, Gavan, Jane, Alexander-Smith crew, and everyone else I'm missing.
Results splits table and GPS Route Replays will be available here on Livelox. Add your route and compare with others during Orienteering Canada's pilot test of a nationwide Livelox subscription during May and June. If you love Livelox for event analysis and improvement as much as we do, please use it during this pilot test, create a free account, and upload your GPS tracks (or import from your GPS watch software). Orienteering Canada will evaluate the demand for a national Livelox subscription depending on how much it is used in May and June.
Finishers for THOMASS (punched correct number of controls):
Note for the THOMASS:
Since it's just for fun and we're all learning, I haven't disqualified anyone, but if you ran through any of the olive green parts, thick black uncrossable fences, or cross-hatched purple parts (see example below), those areas are out-of-bounds. The course setter probably should have highlighted/reminded that the road and sidewalk immediately northwest of the start was shown as out-of-bounds on the map. To access that area, you needed to run north uphill around the fences and buildings:
Please check out the route replays and results tables here on Livelox. If you recorded your track on GPS, please upload it to the Livelox page whether or not you went out of bounds :) Your GPS tracks help everyone learn different including the course planners.
This one is a little different. There is still a regular 1km beginner/novice course that you can do anytime between 6:30-8:00PM. But for Intermediate or Advanced orienteers, there will be a single mass start course starting at 7pm (with mandatory instructions at 6:50pm at the Start in the field in the northwest corner of Riley Park (see map below). The course is 2-3km depending on your age and route (young speedy folk will have to go farther and climb up the hill more).
More details on the mass start course will be given at the Start at 6:50pm, so try to arrive at 6:30pm in time to check-in. The 2nd part of the course will be a regular point-to-point course but for the first part you will need to collect a set number of controls (like a score o) depending on your age.
If you miss the mass start, you can still do the Intermediate/Advanced course as long as you check back in by 8pm. But the mass start is super fun.

Course Selection
This Wednesday the courses are a little different:
- Beginner/Novice: the easiest and shortest course, suitable for beginner orienteers and families; simple navigation near the path circling Riley Park; approx 1-1.5kms, mostly on the main trail. Start anytime after 6:30pm and return before 8pm.
- Mass Start Intermediate / Advanced: requires some orienteering sprint map reading/navigation skills; approx 1.5-3kms depending on your age. Everyone will start at 7pm and must finish by 8pm. The winning time may be under 30 mins. Mandatory instructions will be provided at 6:50pm. If you miss the mass start, you can start later as long as you finish by 8pm (but this event is more fun running at the same time as everyone).

It is a great way to meet more members, and some roles help improve your orienteering skills! If you would like to help out in any way - no experience necessary - please reach out to [email protected] or click on the Volunteer Link below.
