Courses
- Advanced
- In preparation for NAOCs in December, there are two KO-Quali-length courses on offer. It does not matter which course you do first, or if you finish both. Do whatever you are comfortable with, and have fun!
- There are artificial barriers on both courses. These are marked in purple on the map. In real life, there is nothing to mark them and nobody is enforcing them. It is purely an honour-system. We don't care about disqualifications, but we encourage you do obey these this Wednesday to get the full experience of the training. Below is a spiel about using artificial barriers in course planninfor racing.
- The addition of artificial barriers on Sprint courses is a technique used by course planners to spice up the terrain a bit. On the map, there is a purple line to indicate the uncrossable wall of the barrier, and in real life, there is a fence or tape set up in such a way that locals are not hindered from accessing their homes or any other buildings. In a race situation, there will be marshals guarding these tapes or fences who will be on the lookout for orienteers who pass through the barrier. Anyone who crosses will be disqualified.
- Bottom line: if you see a purple line on the map, don't cross it.
- Example barrier (from Vancouver Sprint Camp 2026 Bulletin #2)

- Advanced 1: 2.6 km, 15 controls
- Advanced 2: 2.4 km, 13 controls
- Beginner/Intermediate: 1.5 km, 11 controls
- No artificial barriers. Do this short and technically simpler course if you're feeling a little rusty, then do either (or both!) of the Advanced courses if you are looking for a challenge. MRU is the perfect place to challenge yourself!
Notes
- You must return to the finish and report to the download by 19:30, even if you have not finished your course. Otherwise, we will assume you are lost.
- Please respect the students and people on and around campus.
