Welcome to Ti Jurabi Chubi - in my opinion, one of our best maps!!

It has a cool mixture of really intricate contours, runnable forests, less runnable forests (I’ve tried to avoid most of this!), and some fast, open areas.

As with my event at the Nordic Centre last summer, I have planned courses especially for those trail runners who are interested in learning more about maps. However, don’t be fooled, I have also planned a real technical challenge for those with more experience.

Courses on offer:
Distances are subject to slight change with final touches.

  • Long Advanced: 4.8 km: Highly technical. This course is for experienced orienteers who know what they’re doing.
  • Short Advanced: 3.6 km: Highly technical, but in a smaller package. Ideal for those who want to experience the technical section in a bite-sized chunk.
  • Long Intermediate: 4.3 km: Mostly on trails, but with controls that require some off-trail navigation. Great for confident trail runners wanting a longer introduction to orienteering.
  • Short Intermediate: 2.8 km: Similar to the Long Intermediate, just shorter. A solid choice for beginner adults.
  • Novice: 2.4 km: A gentle introduction to orienteering. Perfect for young orienteers or adults new to reading maps.

**Please note that all courses (apart from the Novice) have an approximately 2 km walk to the start.**

Registration opens August 21st.

A Note on Course Distances:
Course lengths are measured as the straight-line distance between controls, not the distance you’ll actually run. Expect to cover more ground, especially if you miss a turn or take the scenic route!

Starts are open from 10 am–12 pm, and courses close at 2 pm.

If you are new to orienteering and would like some instruction before you try it, please come towards the start of the start interval so we will have time to help you.

Bear spray is mandatory. Anyone under 12 years old must have an adult who is carrying bear spray shadowing them.

Post-Event Social:
Bring a chair and a snack and stick around for some relaxed social time afterwards.

Forest Event

Forest events are typically more structured than urban weekday events and require a higher level of training for the course setters and controllers. Courses offered typically include Novice, Intermediate, Short Advanced, and Long Advanced. Forest events are a great opportunity to challenge and improve your navigational skills in a fun, social, and scenic location.

Novice courses make use of paths and other linear features ("handrails") but require some map interpretation skills and using a compass to orient the map to north. Novices should either have some experience orienteering at club events or should accompany a more experienced orienteer on course. Intermediate courses require navigating a short distance away from handrails, while Advanced courses require even more precise navigation away from obvious terrain features.
